Dust
it off, pack a cooler, fill up the tank and hit the road. It's Hot Rod
Magazine's Power Tour 2000. This year the Tour traversed from San Bernardino,
California, to Panama City Beach, Florida. There were a few familiar places
and faces as well as new stops and sights with plenty of street rods,
muscle cars and everything in between. Follow along on MSD's sixth Power
Tour! |

This
year we toured the country in a 1965 Pontiac Tempest Station Wagon.
The wagon still had its original drivetrain including the 326 2-barrel
backed by an M-21. A 455 is sitting in the wings, but installing the
Vintage Air system was voted more important than an engine upgrade for
the 3,600 mile drive. The location of the photo shouldn't need much
of an explanation. |

The
drive to California was just what we wanted - uneventful. At the border
check, one of the inspection officers asked what we had in it and I
thought he meant the cooler. "Nothing but soda, waters and ice," I said.
He meant the engine. |

The kick off was right downtown San Bernardino. Like the years
past we were working with the Auto Custom Carpets group to help haul
around our display. I can't thank the ACC crew enough for their help
and the hours they put into the Tour. Thanks Jeffs! |

Always
great to catch up with fellow tour sponsors. Here's Beth and Gabby from
Baer Racing. They had a cool Judge and a couple Camaros on the tour plus
they gave away all sorts of cool stuff. |
 |
Jeff
Moses from ACC. I was lucky to catch him actually sitting still. |
 |
And
of course "Vortech Bob" Roese. Bob was in a bad blown LS-1 Camaro and
can answer any blower question you may have. |
 |
More
people rolled into town to get set up. Later in the evening the streets
were packed with cool cars and people from all over the country. |
 |
Leading
the charge every morning is Mason Armstrong in the flamed Chevy van. Mason
was psyched for another tour and kept most everyone on the right path
even through his sleep deprived eyes. |
 |
After
a couple different bouts with project vehicles, Kevin Oeste, from Hot
Rod TV found himself looking for rides. This overdrive equipped drop-top
Dart fit the needs for the TV crew. The Dart is from the east coast and
has made the Tour before, though without the way custom paint. |

On
the road and lookin' in my rear view mirror. Who appears but the Mothers
Polish duo of Forrest Tosie and Ken Holland. Forrest already put the drop,
ground effects, painted bumpers and custom wheels on his PT Cruiser. Unfortunately
their Vista Cruiser exhibited some engine difficulties and couldn't make
the entire tour. Trust me though, the car is incredible! Watch for an
HRM feature. |
