When we pulled into the Route 66 Dragway stop in Joliet, the Hotchkis crew was already set up and had our EZ-Up out too. They rushed ahead of the pack everyday to get spaces and set up. By the time we reached the first gas stop of the day, they were already parked and setting up their booth. (We can't thank them enough!) Their LS-1 powered Camaro made the trip flawlessy!
Right behind us was the Be Cool Radiator crew. They had a nice flamed '57 Chevy on the whole tour and made a few stops in this '69 Camaro.
Be Cool made a cool bracket for their MSD 6AL to. Pretty cool.
When you get into the Chicago area, you're near Auto Meter. And if you're at a show or race near Auto Meter chances are you'll bump into the tireless Ron Piasecki. Here we got to meet his wife Val, while Scott, the Hotchkis marketing ace, wonders how long it will be before their display tent takes off like a kite.
Route 66 had their schedule play night going on and there were more than a few tourers banging gears on the track. From the grandstands you can see the even grander-stands that outline the new super speedway.
Every night there's a drivers meeting where any detours or travel changes are explained as well as sponsor give-aways and goodies.
A bunch of tricked out PT Cruisers were on hand every night. From flames and surfboards to suicide doors and a even a 2-door convertible, the PTs were flaunting it all.
There were even more wagons out this year. This Colorado based '61 was slammed and loaded up with three guys and luggage but the big block hauled it all right down the road. Watch for a feature in Hot Rod Magazine.
On the road to Effingham, Illinois, we motored behind the Chevrolet Motor Medics for a while. Chevy had a bunch of cars on the tour this year including the '66 Chevy II they were raffling off at the end of tour!
Every now and then you should get off the highway and drive some two lanes. You never know what you're going to come across, such as "America's One and Only Hippie Memorial. This was out on the edges of a tiny town in Illinois. What a find!
Peace out man. Note the Michigan Woodstock custom plate. Wonder if it was registered to a VW microbus?
Yet another gas stop overcome with horsepower and cool cruisers.
The Mid America complex is incredible. This little gas station was only part of it all. Mid America has an amazing museum of Corvettes, memorabilia and anything else Corvette.
We bumped into Hot Rod TV man Kevin Oeste, as he pointed at things to shoot while he caught up with the ride/car bumming authority Justin Fort.
You like wings? Here's a pair for you!
