MSD’s new Power Grid Ignition System got into official racing early this year with a few test teams where it made a splash. In the last week the system hit the main stream by officially shipping to teams in drag racing pits around the country. The new controller has less time in the racers hands than some sets of tires and yet it has already made multiple trips to pick up Minuteman trophies from the ADRL. Lamar Swindoll drove a car owned by Todd Moyer to take the win in Extreme 10.5 and Khalid Al-Balooshi drove Brandon Switzer’s tune to victory in Pro Nitrous.  Both teams used the Power Grid to control their ignition systems. Be sure to watch for more teams winning with the Power Grid Ignition System at the NHRA race in Las Vegas next weekend.

 

   

 

MSD Ignition’s newest racing ignition controller, the Power Grid Ignition System is officially hitting race tracks. After much anticipation the first racers received their new Power Grids this week and the system can already be found in cars at major races. This week MSD technicians are assisting racers at the ADRL race in Houston. Next week techs will be helping at the Las Vegas NHRA race.

The MSD Racer Support team traveled to Southern New Mexico Speedway over the weekend to help out some dirt track racers. Winged Sprints, Modifieds, and a host of other classes were on hand to show the fans a great time. Of course, MSD Techs were there to insure that the racers weren’t having any trouble with their ignition systems. On Friday night, Jeff Swindell took the win with an impressive showing grabbing the lead in the last few laps before a Green, White, Checkered finish.

The crew over at BangShift.com got their hands on one of MSD’s programmable ignition controls and put it through the paces. On a dyno at Westech the tech guys got to work with making changes to timing curves using one of MSD’s Programmable-7 ignitions that is so popular with racers. Street guys fear not, though.  Top Fuel driver Del Worsham became the 15th driver to win races in Top Fuel and Funny Car when he defeated seven-time champion Tony Schumacher in the Top Fuel final at the 42nd annual Gatornationals. In Funny car Mike Neff put away Cruz Pedregon as Pedregon smoked the tires at the hit of the throttle. Pro Stock Motorcycle had Eddie Krawiec had the easy win as Karen Stoffer red-lighted to hand the win over to Krawiec. In Pro Mod, Khalid Balooshi beat Danny Rowe by 13-thousandths of a second in the final round for the win! Congratulations to all the winners!

 The NHRA better get their erasers out because the record books are going to be rewritten this weekend at Florida’s Gatornationals. In the first rounds of qualifying on Friday the track record for a Funny Car was lowered to a 4.060 @ 310.13 mph by JFR’s Robert Height. In Pro-Stock Mike Edwards was the first to ever beat the 6.50 mark before Rodger Brogdon (6.495) and Greg Anderson (6.495) went even lower. Unfortunately, rain has put the rest of Friday’s NHRA schedule on hold. Once this system passes it looks like the event should have beautiful weather the rest of the weekend. Last Sunday the NASCAR boys took to the track at Phoenix International Raceway for the Subway Fresh Fit 500. This, the second race of 2011 had 28 lead changes which continued the excitement of the new season. In the end, Jeff Gordon beat out Kyle Busch with a few laps to go and ran away to more than a second lead at the checkered flag.

Gordon got his hands on a coveted Black and White after a 66 race winless drought that spanned nearly two seasons. The win also brought Hendrick Motorsports back into the Winner’s Circle, though other team drivers have been in the spotlight much more recently than the number 24. All of Hendrick’s drivers get their Fire to Drive from MSD’s 6 HVC ignition systems.
