the heavy red goes to the + off the battery with just a 20A fuse between it.
and the heavy black goes straight to the - off the battery. any idea why only one of the tests is OK? check for voltage ( before and after the fuse) .......... |

hallo,
this is my last call for help, hope it brings a solution otherwise i goiing back to the stock ignition. ![]() i did had some time again to look at the car,i thought it might be a bad coil. so i bought a new coil, last week i took the car for a test drive whit the new coil next to me so when the engine shutted down again i could replace the coil so i could see that sorted the probleme. i drove the car 50km whit the old coil and had no probleme at all. so this week i replaced the coil as i had it now anyway and the probleme started all over again. the engine keeps shutting down again sometimes it starts right away and sometimes it takes a few houres. when i do the test with the paper clip i have a good spark but when i try it whit the white wire i hjave NO spark.does this indicate something to you guys? i also wonders if it is the box that is bad can it be that it has some kind of malfunction or are they normally completly dead? could this be caused by the soft rev toutch or maybe by wires that are laying to close to each other? can the position of 6T box couse this or does it not matter if you hang it on the firewall or lay it flat? really hope to find some answers so i can solve this so i can keep using the MSD. henk!!! |

sounds like your losing the trigger signal ( input)...could be the magnetic pick up

do you mean when i did the test whit the white wire?then Magnetic Pickup connector lead was connected.
so if it is that i loose the trigger signal that means the box has to be replaced as well, right? or is it the part in the distibutor?and can that be changed, the distibutor is new from this summer. could i test something else to be sure? really want to keep the MSD,but also want to drive the car further then around the block. henk!!! [QUOTE=henk;78495]do you mean when i did the test whit the white wire?then Magnetic Pickup connector lead was connected.if your testing for spark...you have to make sure that all trigger inouts are disconnected....then use one or the other....

1_) could be a loose connection at the trigger input 2-) distributor is not turning 3-) the 12 volts on the "thin red" wire could be dropping to 0 volts while cranking . 4) could be a bad magnetic pick-up

as i keep having problemes whit the ignition i gonna take it out for now and go back to points.
but i still want to get the MSD back in one day. so the distributor is turning and i have power at the thin red line. the distributor is new from this summer but i can try to place a new magnetic pick-up. do i need the number 84661 then? henk!!! |

That is correct, the replacement part number for the distributor is PN 84661.
This attachment might help with that pick-up swap.
