timing issue (locked dist)

My name is lance. Always used msd products and usually never had a problem.


Baiscally here is my set up.
Sbc big cam heads etc.. nice stout mot
Msd digital 6al. Blaster 2. Probillet ordered locked. And msd 8.5's

This should be 100% locked out timing. When I put a timing light on it says 40 degrees of timing and once I. Give it any form of increase in rpm the timing changes. ( goes to 32 when 40 is at idle) when the rpm's go back to idle it take a few seconds but will go back to the 40 degrees.

Cam to dist gear mesh is fine. Dist dosnt move. Timing chain is tight.
Can this be the digital 6 al problem? Makes no sence

what i would do first....take the cap off ,so you can see the rotor.
with a breaker bar ...turn the motor back and forth to see how much "slack" in the chain is present.
