I installed a second MSD 6 on my '75 Porsche 914 FI engine as a back up.I am using one (1) coil. A 20amp four pole double-throw switch ( PN 8808 ) was used to switch between the two MSDs.
Because of the proximity of the switches spade terminals to one another, it was a challenge keeping all the connectors in place. My idea is to use a DPDT switch for the 12+ red wire and use a terminal strip for the coil wires and white trigger wires. I made up a diagram on an excel spread sheet showing the before and after. I want to know whether this is gonna have a problem Last edited by jim_hoyland; 09-13-2012 at 08:35 PM. |

the coil plus ( orange leads) would also have to be switched.
cannot connect those together. transfer_switch_using_magnetic_trig.pdf |

I have used the (FPDT) transfer switch up to now. I attached the wires to the switch using insulated crimp on connectors instead of the screws that come with the switch. This was done to isolate the wires, if I attached them directly to the spades using the screwa, some would short. Is there a special terminal that works better ? I prefer the FPDT switch, but I can have terminals wiggling loose; or, am I doing this wrong |
