84661 pick-up questions
I have been trying to track down an intermittent no start, stalling condition. This problem is difficult to diagnose because it only acts up about once a month but Im worried I might get stranded. I checked my pick-up coil and it had a value of 565 ohms cold but after a drive and a good heat soak resistance went up to 735 ohms out of spec so I replaced it. So far so good no stalling or any other problems but I checked the resistance of the new pick up cold 550 after heat soak 710 ohms?? out of spec?? it is new from summit. Should the resistance vary this much with temp? should I replace it? Thanks Mike.

resistance is one thing and output is another; we give you a resistance check because many ppl do not own a Lab scope to check the actual output of the magnetic pick up. we have seen that resistance values check out just fine but when we put the distributor on the Scope the output values are not within specification

Thanks for the reply. I dont have a scope so I guess I cant check it. Should I just keep running it to see if I get more problems?Just a thought... can the pick-up be checked by cranking the engine with a dvom hooked up to the pick-up creating an ac voltage? Mike.

unfortunately, not...you may see some movement on the ohms setting.
