Hi ... I have a '68 Camaro that I built and have been enjoying for a few years now ... Although, I only drive it a few times a year ...
All New Wiring Harness throughout MSD 6BTM Ignition Module MSD 8252 HVC Coil MSD Pro Billet Distributor 85551 This past weekend, the wife and I went for a pretty long drive and back with no issues ... It's been this way since the car was complete a while back ... The next day I try to fire the car and it will not start. It's turning over so I checked for spark and have none. I plan to do the following this weekend to troubleshoot: 1) Ensure connections are still 100% tight and intact 2) Check Power is getting to the Ignition Module with Key in On Position ... If power is getting to the Ignition Module ... I'll 3) Perform the Spark Test as outline in the Instruction Manual and Online ... If no Spark, I'll pick up another coil and try that ... 4) If the new coil doesn't do the trick, I'll probably have to send in my 6BTM for service ... ARE THERE any other things that I should test or check ??? Thanks, Tim Last edited by Tim_in_NC; 09-22-2012 at 08:24 AM. |

I performed the Spark Test on the Ignition and Coil with key in On Position and spark was flying ... so they checked out ok ...
Went back and did a Spark Test on a Plug and No Dice ... The Distributor is a Pro Billet Version, MSD 85551 ... Is there anything else that could be causing the No Spark condition other than the Distributor? If it truly is the Distributor, can I just purchase replacement parts ??? |

I did a couple more checks on the Power coming into the Ignition Module via the Ignition Key ...
With the key in the Off Position: No Power ... With the Key in the On Position: 11.8 Volts ... With the Key in the Starting Position, the power dropped to 10.3 Volts Is this drop sufficient to get things going? OR is something going on here? |

Before trying the jump start method from the switched wire to constant power ...
I reconnected the switched 12v wire and tried to start the car again and bingo, it fired right up ... Now I'm really confused ... Either I had a loose connection somewhere that didn't appear loose or the distributor decided to work again ... Holy Head Spinning Batman ... LOL Now I worried about getting stuck out somewhere! |

sounds like a loose connection on the red lead.
i would first, put a volt meter on that ..to see what kind of voltage is present. Last edited by msdtech1955; 09-24-2012 at 01:18 PM. |

After checking everything out ... all was good ... tried starting the car back up and no issues ... started fine ...
However, the car is now doing the same thing ... No spark and will not start ... Is the mag. pickup in the distributor going bad? |

Coil #8252 ... From what I see online the spec for the Primary is 0.02 ohms and Secondary is 1.38 K ohms ...
I'm getting 0.5 ohms on the Primary and 1.2 K ohms on the Secondary As for the Distributor I'm getting 0 ohms with testing the magnetic pickup ... I'll order a magnetic pickup ... however, any concern or reason why my Primary Number is so high on the Coil? Does it need to be replaced? Thanks |
