Disabling a 6AL

Could someone tell me the best way to disable a MSD 6AL ignition in order to crank the engine for things like compression testing? Pull the coil wire out of the distributor? And ground it?

just dis-connect the trigger lead ( white wire or the magnetic pick-up leads)
