hey all,
i am new to MSD products but not to cars, i have tuned my past 3 builds (all 350 chev's) well i have something a bit different for you, i have a ef civic with a single cam 1.6 engine (its tiny). i have 11:1 compression ratio a custom ground cam blah blah blah.anyway i have done away with the FI for a pair of 45 DCOE Webers. for my timing i have got a Digital 6530 with a external coil which i have running off a magnetic pickup. the problem is when i go into the 'pro data+' software there is only maps for a 'retard' curve not for 'advance'??. the problem is i can only advance my timing off the distributor about 15 degrees as it is usually done through the ECU, is there any way to advance my timing digitally through the MSD or do i have the wrong product. I was told i could, but haven't been able to find anything. am i being stupid or can you not 'advance' with this set up. Cheers, Dave |

Hello Dave,
All ignitions retard. The signal generator tells the ecu where the engine is, typically 60 BTDC. The timing map then retards the spark to say 10 BTDC at 1000rpm etc, via the timing map. In your case the distributor (signal generator) needs to trigger the 6530 (ecu) at a locked timing of about 40 degrees, you then "retard" from there to get 15 at idle etc. The 6530 is a great piece of gear, once you get to know what it can do. There are many threads etc, on programmable ignitions on here including 6530.

so basically that leaves me with this. i have to drill and re-slot the rotor button inside the distributor (which i really dont want to do).
..... just thinking, could i switch the ignition leads all one place advanced which basically giving me 90 degrees of advance (360/4=90) and then retard say 65 to give me 25 degrees advanced.... is there a limit to how much retard i can set on this program? |
