Okay, I understand the difference between the two. Vac. adv. vs. mech. adv.
I'm just really confused in which one to get for my application. Most people suggest 85551. It's a 69 Nova with a modified 350. Headers, Edelbrock 650 AVS, 202 heads, "bracket cam", 10:1, 6AL, BlasterSS, etc. It is a weekend cruiser only. Fuel milage is not of concern. Help please! Jason |

The 85551 does not have vaccum advance, it will work good for a performance up grade . The 8361 is the same but with a vaccum advance which will add fuel economy to your perf. up grade. All-in-all if your looking for fuel economy 8361 if your looking for more perf. 85551, which is the most common sold dist.

So, is the 8361 the same as the 85551 if you lock out the vacuum advance?

Why not run an 8394:

the 8361 has a vacuum advance ,where as the 85551 does not....but,
if you locked it it, then it would become just mechanical advance ...just like the 85551. vacuum advance lock-out.jpg |
