Digital 6 - Blk Ground Wire

I installed my box.

Does the ground wire need to actually go to the Negative of the battery terminal? Or just to the frame of the car?

I grounded to frame simply because my battery is in the trunk and the box is up front...

If this is a no-no should i use a larger gauge wire to run it to the trunk?

chassis ground would be a good start...but , here is how we like to see the ignition system grounded.
