Blaster coil install on 1998 boat

I suspect my original coil on 350 V8 OMC stern drive boat is weak. I am replacing it with a Blaster 2 coil.

The stock igintion has a electrionic ignition model loacted in the distribitor. The stock coil has an external resistor.

Can I just use the exiting resistor, or do i also need to add the MSD 8214 Ballast resistor in series to the existing resistor? The exiting coil has a resistance of 2.1 ohms and I getting 1.3 ohms from the Blaster. So it looks like I need to add the .8 MSD resistor.

Just don't want to hurt the stock electronic ignition. Would it hurt to add the .8 ballast anyway?

if those are the readings you are getting then YES you should be using that .8 ohm resistor.
