deactivation delay, how does it work?

If the time based retard is halfway through it's build time and it's deactivated (for example by closing the throttle when it's wired through a WOT switch), then i can set the deactivation delay to cover that breif deactivation.
However if the time based retard is re-activated (by opening the throttle again) will it resume where it left off or start from 0 again?

In the same way nitrous controllers have a resume ramp basically?
