Default Blaster 2 Coil

I've own a VW Bug and bought a blaster 2 coil for it. I started the engine and it didn't run worth a crap, so I put the Bosch blue coil on and ran fine. So I bought a 8214 - MSD Ballast Resistor for it on and ran fine. I was finally happy until I get about 10-15 minutes down the road and it starts acting up again. So I put the bosch back on and running fine.. Whats going on here? I've ran other blaster 2 coil and power coil on my vw drag bug with no problem and this one is just a street bug. Help....

Is the coil mounted vertically or horizontally. Vertical - straight up and down with the tower of the coil pointed to the sky. Horizontally - laying on its side as you would when lying asleep.

If mounted horizontally, or upside down, as some VW bug applications do, this could expose or cause the oil that files that coil from creating an 'air bubble' in the coil housing. This air bubble could expose the winding of the coil to the outside case and cause the coil to act as you describe.

If the coil is not that old a purchase, you might try exchanging it where you bought it. Keep in mind, however, that the dealers return policy is just that, their return policy. We have no control over that. If they won't exchange it, follow this procedure to return the coil to us: http://www.msdignition.com/RMA_step0.aspx

Send a copy of the sales receipt, this is important as there is no way other than the date on the sales receipt to prove the unit is still within the one year from date of purchase warranty period.

We will test the coil, and if defective, issue an order for a replacement.

I've got the coil mounted vertical. I also forgot to post that I even had the car running for the same about of time in the driveway and never messed up it only when I'm driving.

I've had the coil for about 3 months tops before putting it on the car couple of weeks ago ( due to my work ), but the bad thing is I lost the invoice. What can I do? I would hate to buy another one and it does the same thing.

Try going to the dealer you bought the coil from and see if they can provide you with a copy of the sales receipt.

I was told that the spark plug wires might have a problem with it? The wires I'm running are SCAT 8mm with Heli-wound Low-Resistance Stainless Conductors in the wires.

Unfortunately, The plug wires might be a problem. We recommend using a set of good quality, noise suppression wires. NOISE SUPPRESSION being the key. Stay away from 'hype' wires that claim added energy transfer, added power output, etc.
