We are having a problem with our dirt modified ruining the modules. msd pro billet hei with msd super conductor 8.5 wires. We have replaced switches, just about all wiring, battery, solenoid. Only wire that hasnt been replaced is the main battery cable. That is being replaced tonight. We have a ground wire going from the distributor to the engine block, a ground wire going from the engine block to the negative terminal on the battery. We are at a loss on what keeps causing these modules to pop.

When it happens the engine keeps running it just sounds like its cross firing.

Any ideas or help to solve this demon we have with us?

This caused us a championship last year, and countless wins. Last night leading the heat race we lost another module and didnt attempt to put another one in for the feature. A few weeks ago we was leading the A feature and on lap 18 of 20 another module let go. Very frustrating. We have lost probably 10 modules in the past year!

I have a epoxy filled MSD coil in a '71 Cuda. With the engine running I get 7.5 volts at the positive post of the coil. That's the same voltage coming out of the ballast resistor. The restistor is rated at 1.4 ohms and is included with the Chrysler electronic distributor kit. Battery voltage is 13.6 running and that is what gets into the ballast. Do I run the coil through the ballast or just put full system voltage to the coil? I've been told the coil will overheat with full system voltage put into it. Anyone have some advice for me? I'm having plug fouling problems in the Hemi. Any advice as to plug type in an aluminum head?

Car: 2000 Integra GSR turbo
ECU: OBD1 P72 with Moates.net Demon running Neptune
MSD Parts: Pro-Billet 8488, Coil 8235, Driver 6305

The engine starts and runs fine. We even tuned the car to make 505whp @ 25psi with the MSD ignition. The issue is the communication from the Demon to the PC. I connect the Demon using the Neptune software, the datalog is reading live sensor outputs. This will run for 1-4 mins and then stop updating. All communcation is interupted between the PC and Demon. I can replicate this issue with just the ignition ON and the engine OFF.

I worked with the creator of Neptune who said it sounded like RF interference.
Steps we took to troubleshoot:
1.) Replaced the USB cable between the Demon and PC
2.) Added ferrite cores to the USB cable
3.) Tested 3 different laptops with different OS's
4.) Demon firmware, USB drivers and Neptune software are up to date
5.) Replaced the Demon with a known good unit.
6.) Added the Bluetooth comm option to connect instead of USB
7.) Added ferrite cores to the distributor harness and ecu harnes.

Nothing worked, the communication is still unreliable. However I have narrowed down the cause to the MSD distributor. WHEN I UNPLUG THE MSD DSTRIBUTOR THE PROBLEM STOPS. Likewise when I plug in the stock Honda distributor the problem also stops.

Something from the distributor is creating enough noise or interfernce to constantly disrupt communcation. The crazy part is the MSD distributor can produce this without the engine on. What else can I test on the MSD distributor? It has a good ground through the head. The ECU has a good clean ground too. We put BIG ferrite cores on both the distributor and ECU harnesses which did not help.

After reading many threads and papers i still cant figure out where the problem lies.

Engine, new build 383ci,
Edelbrock rpm intake
Holley 670CFM street avenger carb
MSD pro billet dizzy
Edlebrock 64cc ally heads
Comp cam XE274H
XS power headers with 4" side pipes
CR approx 9.7:1

Info on carb for interest, jets chaged from 65 pri and 68 sec to 68 pri and 71 sec, (out the box wouldnt account for 383, headers, larger cam etc and it did seem a little lean) throttle plates adjusted as per Lars papers, fuel level in bowls varified to correct level, idle mixture screws equally adjusted to best vac.
Vac can changed from B26 (MSD orginal) to B28 due to the low vac with the larger cam around 11-12" at 850rpm.

I have confirmed with No 1 piston at TDC the HB reads 0*, advance the initial timing to 18*, set springs and bushing in dizzy to give 36* all in at 2,800rpm (vac not connected and plugged at carb)

All good so far, hook up the vac can with 11-12" of vac (should pull all in at 8", nothing below 4"), as soon as the vac can is connected the engine starts stumbling afterfire and occasional backfire (vac connected to full vac port below the throttle plates).

I disconnected the vac can, plugged the port and advanced the initial timing to 30*, engine revs pick up and runs smooth, occasional afterfire but that could be down to lean mixture (carb not tuned properly yet).

I removed the cap and checked the weights, springs and vac can hook up, all look OK, i marked the No1 rotor position on the base of the carb and another mark were the mech advance (18*) pulled the rotor to, i then manually pulled the vac advance to max, marked from and to points and the measurement between the two lines was just about the same as the mech advance, this was to confirm the vac and mech advance were moving the advance the same distance i.e. equivelant to 18*.

So with the checks done i couldnt figure why the engine wouldnt run with vac connected, i left the port capped and pulled the vac can with a vac pump, same responce as before.

This problem was the same with the B26 installed, i have verified that the B28is pulling correct vac and advance with a manual vac pump.

Have i missed something simple or am i way off the mark here?

I have an e-curve I bought new and I can’t get any spark from this thing. It's never run quite right and now I get no spark at the plugs. I have only had it installed in the garage while working on a resto and never on the street. I just installed a new Optima battery, Mini Starter, and new Edelbrock intake and carb. I have followed all the troubleshooting from the MSD site and forums but have no luck.
This is on a ford 302 with Blaster II coil and the dizzy is ground directly to the battery. No Ignition box. I get decent spark with the dizzy out of the block spinning by hand so I know the coil is good. The spark is strong and will arc a half inch when jumped from the coil wire. I set the engine to TDC. The dials are set to 6 and 0. With the dizzy in the block the spark from the coil is intermittent at best sparking only 2 or 3 times when I crank it over for 10 - 15 seconds. What am I missing? I've had this thing for nearly 2 years. What are my options for repair if bad?

I just received my DIS-2 ignition back from MSD and I attempted to use the product in my car and it still does not operate correctly. The document shipped back with the DIS-2 stated their was nothing wrong with the device (burned in all day with no issues). I still get the same problem; there is no spark and when I tap the lead to ground, it does not spark and it causes my coil pack to make a whining type sound. I connected my tach adapter (do not need it for my particular setup) and tapped the lead to ground. As indicated by the troubleshooting directions, the lead sparked when it was pulled from ground. The DIS-2 just blinks once continuously; what is the meaning of that code? It use to work (without a tach adapter)then it just stopped working and gave me this code. Any assistance you can provide would be helpful. I have a 90 Eclipse with an AEM stand-alone with stock coils and ignitor. I have also soldered all trigger wires (did not solder power wires) to correct the problem.

Hi all, I have a GT40 spec 302, running with a ProBillet, blaster2 coil, 6AL and a 8980 timing computer for nitrous running, the ProBillet has been 'locked' out.

Now, I have been chasing a misfire for a few weeks, and it has gotten to the point where I was checking the timing daily.

It has now decided that it doesn't want to run at all, I have a spark at the plugs, and fuel going into the carb, but they do not seem to want to join together at the correct time...

Could the 8980 have gone 'down' leaving me with a spark from the 6AL but no advance curve???

As I am in the UK and the engine is in my daily driver, I am a bit stuck for time sending stuff back to you guys, and I don't really want to unlock the ProBillet to run it just on the 6AL if it's not going to work... :confused1:

Any ideas???
If I set it at 5000 it limits at 4200. The converter will stall to 5000 without two step. The pro data software is accurate with what ever settings are put in and I can see the dark blue wire activate and deactivate on the laptop with the transbrake pushed. It is not a TCD activation as there are no lights flashing and the car revs up once the trasbrake is released. Any ideas?
