i have a 86 mercury capri with the 5.0 / aod configuration, /efI. after installing the msd coil & 6al my tach dosent work. I know there is a tach connection on the box, How do i hook this up to get my tach working???????

The tach output terminal is the round circle on the side of the MSD 6AL with the male spade connector. If you are using an aftermarket tach this is where you want to connect the tach to. Please let us know if you are using a factory tach or an aftermarket.

When triggering of the white wire of the MSD Unit, and using the factory tach you will need the PN 8910 Tach Adapter. This is available through the same place you purchased the MSD 6AL.

I am also having the same type of problem also....I have a 1986 5.0 mustang (very similar car). I have a MSD 6A with a MSD 8910 tach adaptor ....that worked fine with my DFI Gen 7 system with my TFI distributor...but now that I have a DFI dual sync distributor my tach doesn't work again...I'm guessing because that distributor uses a different type of signal....everything was still hooked up the same with the tach...so now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get this stock tach working again....help! :)

If you are still using the MSD unit as the ignition, but now triggering through the magnetic pick up, you will need the PN 8920 Tach Adapter.

I'm still using the MSD mustang 5.0 harness with it...I'm not using the magnetic pickup wires off the msd...the the white, orange, red, black (something along the lines...I'm not using the violet wire and the one that goes with that)...like a stock mustang. The signal from the new distributor is different that it send to the DFI but I'm still triggering it with the same wires I was before. The only thing that was changed from when it worked to not working was the distributor changed...

ok the green and violet wires are the ones I wasn't using before and am not using now....the whole time it was been hooked up like a stock 5.0 with a MSD 5.0 harness with my distributor that I had then and now triggering the white wire....only thing that changed was the actual distributor...I can't understand why its not working...

only thing I wonder is does it matter what type of distributor triggers that white wire? thats the only thing that has changed and still just triggers that white wire...but stock tach was working before that....I thought using the 8910 convertor that the tach should still get the signal it needs from the MSD and not matter what kind of distributor this is...right?

If you are still using the white wire then the PN 8910 should still work, make sure that it is connected properly. Red to 12 volts and white to the white wire of the MSD Unit with the diode that is supplied with the PN 8910.
The 8920 will still be able to work for you, but you are going to have more wires and will use the tach output of the MSD Unit to get the reference signal to trigger the 8920, and a wire that comes out of the 8920 to trigger the tach and power and ground.
