I cant figure out what wires to use on my 3.1 malibu(01). There are no wires going to the coils. there are only wires going to the ignition module (purple, yellow, yellow/black, red/black). Can you help??

In order to adapt the MSD unit to your application you will have to remove the factory coils and install the PN 8870's in between. This is where the primary connections are. You will need 3 of the PN 8870's in order to install the MSD Unit. The other way is to make your own spacers and make those connections underneath the coils. The unit that you should have is the PN 6215 Dis-4.

It does not matter, just as long as you match the proper coils to the proper channel on the MSD Unit, example the white wire is the first channel, make sure that the brown/white goes to the same coil pack as the white wire. The 8870 will give you a specific diagram on how to wire both a 4 cylinder, 6-cylinder application.

The only other way is to make your own spacers, which are 2 per coil pack, then you will have to make your own connections between the coils and module, this is where the primary wires are at. You are also going to have to find longer bolts for the coils once you add the spacers.
