I have a new 6al installed on a 540 big block with blaster 2 coil. We had a very bad miss in fact the engine would only run under light load at 2500 RPM. It would pop through the intake and exhaust. We thought we finally found the problem when the cap on the MSD billet magnetic pickup distributer was found to be 180 off. ie. the distributer had to be rotated 180 degrees for the cap to fit properly. We did this fix and the engine (in a boat ) ran great. No miss etc just great power. The problem has started again. The inside of the cap shows signs of arcing ie. there is dust in the cap and magnetic debris on the contacts of the cap. The cap appears to be undamaged. Would a cap and rotor replacement solve the problem or is it more basic?
