View Full Version : Coil for Subaru Outback

Hello, I'm a big MSD fan and would like to put one of your coils on my 1998 2.5l Subaru Outback. I have rebuilt the motor, but aside from slightly higher compression (from milling the heads and deck) and some head work it is a stock street motor. The Subaru coil looks identical to your Mitsubishi 4-tower (I know looks can be deceiving), will this coil work for this application? Also, on down the road I'd like to replace the entire ignition with an MSD box and coil, would the DIS-2 be the best bet for this application?
Thanks for your help!

You should be able to replace the coil with the MSD Coil your refered to. If the connector pins on your coil are round, then you will need to use the PN 8229 Coil. If the connector pins are flat, then you will need to use the PN 8239 Coil. You should only have three wires leading to your coil. The center wire should have 12 volts on it. The MSD DIS 2, PN 6211, would be the best unit for as long as your factory coil does not have the coil driver built into it.

Thanks for the info!
As you stated, there are only three wires going to the coil and the center one is the 12V supply. The pins are flat so I'll get an 8239.
