How hot will the box get?

I have the MSD 6a box on my 84 jeep grand wagoneer with a built 360v8. I have been chasing a problem with my motor cutting off after riding the trails. I thought it was a vapor lock problem, but someone told me it might be my MSD box getting to hot. It was mounted under the hood and would get so hot you could not touch the box at all. I have since moved the box into the cab, but it still gets warm, but you can hold your hand on it at least.

How hot should it get?

I also heard some where that a low amperage to the box would cause it to overheat.
How do you check this.

The heat that you where seeing when it was in the engine compartment was most likely from the heat radiating off of the exhaust manifold and engine. The unit will get warm to the touch and that is normal. As long as you have a good 12 volts going into the heavy gauge Red wire on the unit then you should not have any problems related to the input voltage.
