View Full Version : Master Cut Off Switch

We have a 1971 Z-28 Camaro. In moving the battery to the back, we want to make sure we are wiring the master cut-off switch correctly with the MSD box.
When the cutoff switch is in the off position, we still get power to the fuel pump and water pump. Is this supposed to happen? If not, then do you know what might cause it.

The master power switch that is normally used on a race car application is installed on the Red (Heavy) gauge power cable leading from the battery. If the switch is turned to the off position, you should not get any power past that point. You must be hooking those devices that are staying on directly to the battery positive terminal. As a test, disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery and see if the power goes away on your fuel and water pump. If it does, then you do not have the battery disconnect in the correct place or the fuel and water pump are connected diredtly to the battery positive post.
