I have a turbo methanol Beetle that I want to install a ProMag12. What needs to be done to run one of these on a 4 cylinder application? Can I use a normal car starter to start the engine (not sure how many rpm I need to achieve before it will start)?

you will have to make a spark plug manifold block ( for four plugs , .017 gap)
and wire the mag with every other plug ( thats not going to the motor) to the "plug block manifold"... dont worry about this...firing in the air like that ..
we do it all the time on the nitro bikes .

as far as cranking speed ..it will have to see atleast 150 rpm...
most 16 volt batteries will accomplish this .

Thanks for the info Larry. You used to helpout a buddy of mine with his nitro bike in Canada (Warren). I raced a nitrous Harley at the time with Ron Houniet. I was looking at what the top fuel bikes were running but didn't see 4 plugs in the exhaust. The 150rpm is with which magneto set up? Someone was telling me that the 44 amp mag needed something like 1500 rpm to start. Thanks

also what about the mounting and drive protion of the mag. Since this is for VW is there something that MSD can supply or is it going to be a custom thing?
