View Full Version : HVC Blaster or Jacobs Ultra Coil?
07-31-2003, 11:13 AM
For use with an MSD Digital 6 plus ignition unit, which coil would work best,
Jacobs Ultra Coil:
primary .5-.8 ohms
secondary 2600 ohms
primary inductance 5.2 mH
turns ratio 85/1
or the MSD Blaster HVC part #8252 ????
Does the digital 6 unit utilize a resonant type output that requires a specific coil to be used?
Thanks for the help!

The MSD Digital 6 Ignition does not require a specific coil to be matched with its output. The unit does not put out a resonant type output. The MSD Blaster HVC, PN 8252, has a slightly higher turns ratio (100:1) that will help you in the voltage department, and its peak current and spark duration are slightly higher. If you want the ultimate coil for that application, check out the new Blaster HCV II Coil, PN 8253. Primary Resistance: .16 ohms, Secondary Resistance: 630 ohms, Max Voltage: 44,000, Inductance: 3.5 mH, Turns Ratio: 100:1, Peak Current 450 mA, Spark Duration: 450 uS.

Ok, thanks! I thought the Blaster II #8253 coil needed the Digital 7 unit to drive it, due to the much lower primary resistance. The Digital 6 Plus will work fine with the lower resistance?

The PN 8253 Blaster HVC II is the Blue colored coil and can be used with the MSD 6 Series Ignitions.

A final note on the new product: Blaster II Coil, p/n 8253. The info on this coil can only be found in the new products section of the web site and is not yet mentioned either in the coil lineup, or in the Digital 6 specs. Looks like it will be excellent for all-around use with the 450 us long spark duration.

Thanks for the tip. We are currently updating the website and getting all the new products moved over to their respective product sections. I will make sure that one is on the list to be updated.
