Is there a general way in where to set up the initial timing at? Is there a general rule of thumb? Thanks

Generally want as much timing as possible without detonation, as much initial timing without hard starting and have the timing come in as quickly as possible with out detonation off idle. Most applications will start between 8-16 degrees initial, end with 30-38 total.

MSD AdminOnce my engine warms up,it pings a little when taking off from 1st.After that it doesn't ping any.Back off a few degrees? How should timing be determined for mileage?
