Can you test a mag coil with amn ohms meter? And what would the resistance be if it was good? Can a msd 8993 be used as a ignition tester? and finally can a msd 8208 coil be use with a crane hi-8 ?not really a mag question but...

yes sir, saw your question on yellowbullet ...look at the bottom of the coil and you will see two number and a date code ... keep in mind that the resistance is low... where most meters wont read...we use an inductance meter to see this..
the top number resistance..is from the positive to the negative..and the bottom number is from positive to the tower .
8993..is a top fuel tester ..
This Tester is designed to be used with MSD’s Programmable Pro Mag Controller, PN 8973. It can
also be used with the MSD Timing Retard, PN 8168, when used with the Racepak Datalink Acquisition
software. The Tester will simulate a trigger signal as if the engine were running so you can
view and verify the programmed settings. It can trigger individual or dual Pro Mag systems.
and the 8208 ...unfortunately, that coil was only design with the 10 plus in mind.

ok,thanks .so the 8993 can't trigger a 7531 for example connected to the green/purple wires?

MSD Digital Ignition Tester
These instructions detail how to use the Ignition tester with an MSD 6, 7, 8, 10, or SCI Series Ignition and the CPC Ignition, PN 7600. If you need to test an MSD DIS Ignition, you need tester PN 8996.
this would be a better way to go .:001_smile:
