RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Dyno Testing

MSD engineers and technicians are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to design and improve ignition components. New products go through a battery of hands-on testing including test vehicles and engines. Our four in-house dynos are constantly putting prototype components through a battery of tests on a variety of test engines from stock daily drivers to modern Pro Stock powerplants. After dyno and bench testing results meet our engineers standards, the components are installed on test vehicles and run on our Superflow chassis dyno for even more testing. Our in-house dynos are constantly putting new technology to the test.

ASSEMBLY AND TESTING

Final Testing

Once the engineering and prototype testing is complete, a product heads for the manufacturing departments. MSD incorporates a combination of automatic insertion machines and hand assembly. As a component progresses through the assembly, it undergoes a variety of tests performed by a trained technician.
Further assembly, including a Humi-Seal coating which forms a water resistant seal over all of the electrical circuits, follows the testing. The circuits are then installed in their housing and are subjected to a four hour burn-in test. This test runs the unit for two hours followed by a one hour hot soak, then another hour of performance. One more final check occurs before the product is packaged and shipped out.
Every ignition goes through a four hour burn-in process followed by hands-on testing to ensure quality and reliability. Plus, everything is hand assembled in the USA!

MSD Dyno Test Confirmed New Digital Propane Injection
We just installed a prototype Digital Propane Injection on K&N's Dually Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck! So far the dyno results from the Digital Propane Injection have been great. With increases of up to 100 hp and 200 ftlb torque, no wonder these trucks are more popular than ever! Our very own Ford F-350 Dually sports the Digital Propane Injection as well as Mickey Thompsons Super Duty Truck!

 

MSD Dyno Test ConfirmedTurbo Boost Controller in the works!
Nick Owens brought in his 1000+ HP Outlaw Mustang from Louisiana to do some testing with our new Turbo Boost Controller. It easily pegged the 1K mark on the MSD Superflow dyno on a mild run.
